Early Wednesday

This is quickly becoming my least favorite time of day for at least two reasons. First, the turning back the clock business is for the birds. Sunday morning, Joshua and Jenna were awake at 4:55. They are slowly adjusting, but this is a far cry from the days when 'turn back the clock' weekend was one of my favorite of the year!

Second, this is when I sit around and wait for Janel to call with the update from the night. The past two nights she's called to let me know Isaac struggled in the early morning and then had to have his oxygen turned up. Yes, the overall trajectory is still good, but the steps backward are grueling.

When I left last night, he was at .3 liters. At one point we had him all the way down to .175, but he put up some resistance so we inched it back up.

Here's our desperate, heartfelt desire: Mary is flying out on Saturday, and there are not words to describe what it would mean to us if the six of us could have just one evening at home together. When we first got Mary's ticket, we thought we'd for sure have a few days together at home, even if Isaac did end up in the hospital. Today is Isaac's 14th day in the hospital.

We did decide to do the Ph probe test to get an accurate gauge of Isaac's reflux. Our understanding is that the upper GI is not that accurate in determining the severity of reflux. From the upper GI we know that he has some reflux, and though it wasn't that significant of an event, it's possible there are more severe events throughout a day. The Ph probe stays in his throat for 24 hours and measures acidity. From that we'll be able to accurately determine if Isaac needs medication and how much.

I'll post again later today with updates. Still waiting for the phone to ring--trying to remain hopeful.
